Yoga Nidra Technique
Yoga nidra can be done effectively by listening to a recording but the best way to receive yoga nidra is live from a teacher. Yoga nidra is done lying in savasana (corpse pose). There is no physical effort involved. There are eight clearly defined steps as follows: 1. Settling: Relaxing the self in preparation for yoga nidra. 2. Sankalpa (resolve) This is a short positive statement of intent created by each individual. This statement is in present tense and reflects the heart and soul’s deepest longings. The same resolve is used each time and is repeated at least 3 times mentally. 3. Rotation of consciousness: Awareness of different body parts. 4. Breathing: Focus on one of many specific breathing techniques. 5. Pairs of opposites: Awareness of sensations or emotions E.g.: heavy/light, pain/pleasure, still/moving. 6.Visualization: This can be rapid visualization, a guided journey or charkas. It can include symbols, archetypes, elements, and guided healing. 7. Sankalpa: Repeat the resolve. 8. Externalisation: Coming back into the physical world.
