Immerse yourself in the theory and practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Whether you plan to teach or simply wish to deepen your practice join us for 6 months of extensive in house training.
The course includes:
Tuesday & Thursday eves at 6:15-8:30pm
Tuesday eves will be Anatomy, Physiology & Theory
Thursday eves will be Yoga Philosophy & Theory
In the theory sessions we will cover in depth the details of postures, alignment, correct breathing, energetic locks and how to communicate these to students. We will also cover Kriyas (yogic cleansing practices) and pranayama. we will then cover how to structure a Vinyasa class so it is balanced physically as well as energetically. Towards the end of these sessions we will teach you how to market yourself as a teacher.
Yoga Philosophy will be based on discussions of The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
The Anatomy & Physiology will cover the main systems of the human body – including the skeletal, cardiovascular, and pulmonary systems and the benefits of a yoga practice on these systems. We will also discuss the most common injuries and how to aid the healing process.
2-3 sessions observing/assisting per week
You observe classes & progress to assisting where you will learn hands on adjustments for every pose. This will start from day one and where much of your learning will happen. On the job training! For the observing part which will be the first few weeks you can choose any classes on the schedule. Bring pen and paper to take notes at these sessions. For the assisting part the early morning Mysore Monday – Thursday is the perfect place to learn these valuable skills. When you have learned a few adjustments it will be possible to swap around with other classes on the schedule.
Practice a minimum of 5 times per week
This can be at Jai or at home if your schedule does not allow you to make it to the studio. To become the best teacher you can be, develop a self practice of minimum 2/3 sessions of your yoga practice per week. This might be in the Mysore setting here at Jai or/and at home. As a teacher you will find that ultimately all the gifts you have to give are inside and come from self observation and study.
