Syed Ali and Jacqueline Ivory conceived the idea of Jai Yoga Studio in Cape Town in 2008 when Jacqueline was pregnant with their son Jai, (‘Jai’ is Sanskrit for 'victory/victorious'), practicing Pregnancy Yoga and while they were both teaching at other Cape Town yoga studios. Their aim was to create a space of authentic yoga with a synergy of physical and internal yoga practices.
Syed personally designed and built Jai yoga studio from 70% recycled materials. All other materials were sourced locally in Cape Town with consideration for there environmental impact. Using his experience as a builder and yoga practitioner he designed the studio to be a user friendly and comfortable space, where one could experience peace in the middle of the city and connect with the energy of Table Mountain.
Jai Yoga Studio has a pure white and glass Zen interior adorned with crystal chandeliers. Both yoga studios have sprung wooden floors, specifically designed to allow the practice of yoga involving jumps and lifts. The floors have he natural flexibility of pine, cushioning the yoga practice, yet offer support by the individual planks being glued and nailed to each other
The hot yoga studio - the Sun yoga studio where Bikram yoga and Vinyasa yoga classes are held has stunning views of Cape Town's Table Mountain and Lion's Head and is bathed in natural light - the two side walls are floor to ceiling glass, affording views of the harbor and allowing sunlight to enter as well as a floating glass strip at the front of the studio affording views of the mountain and city.

The Moon yoga studio where Ashtanga yoga, Mysore Style, Yoga Nidra, Pregnancy Yoga, Yoga Tots, and OSHO Active meditation, are held has a peaceful and meditative atmosphere. Pure white walls and floors welcome you as you enter this yoga studio, with its high ceiling and crystal chandelier. An aura of calm pervades this exceptionally beautiful Cape Town Yoga Studio.

Environmental Impact of the Yoga Studio

To minimize the environmental impact while the studio is running we have taken the following steps:
· a state of the art heating and humidifying system running on gas, and 3-phase power supply. The gas heater is rated 4/5 stars for energy efficiency, the humidifier uses a 3-phase electrical supply, which is more efficient than a normal single phase electric wall socket

· the studio was specifically designed to allow as much natural light into the space as possible, reducing the need for artificial lighting

· 95% of the artificial lighting is supplied by low energy bulbs (we are working on making this %100)

· the sun studio was designed as a "room within a room" completely insulated from the buildings outside walls - any heat that escapes simply helps to heat up the lounge area of the studio

· all 13 showers are fitted with Oyxgenics water saving shower heads – this reduces our water consumption by over 65%

· all toilets are fitted with power flushed – reducing water consumption by 40%

· we encourage all students to bring their own plastic bags for their damp clothes and towels

· we will be installing the Crystal Clear water system very soon (waiting on the delivery of glass bottles) to eliminate the use of plastic bottles

· all our plastic and paper is recycled

· we use only companies based in Cape Town (CBD) for our laundry, gas services etc – minimizing the transport impact of deliveries the studio.

This is indeed an environmentally friendly yoga studio in Cape Town CBD.
